From fossils to fill ‘er up, the California Oil Museum of Santa Paula tells the story of the back bonanza that created wealth, work and prosperity for generations of Californians. This session combines all workshops into one in order to demonstrate all the California Oil Museum has to offer. Hands on activities involving rocks and minerals, plate tectonics, earthquakes, fossils and petroleum are all dynamic and interactive. Come and learn more about petroleum and our museum.
We use knots in some fashion every day. From work to play we use them on an wide variety of things. Swing sets, clotheslines, securing a load to a cartop, tying a bulky sack, camping, and mountain climbing. Knots are handy and versatile and when you know the right one to use, they make life much easier. We will focus on some specific knots and go over some basic knot details.
Papermaking is a fun activity that every age can do to recycle and make something beautiful and useful for handmade books, cards, journals and scrapbooking.
Be certain to follow up this activity with the “Bookmaking” session (using your newly made paper) on Sunday morning!
We will take paper (handmade if you took the Papermaking workshop) and make a handmade soft book that can be used as a journal or scrapbook; for art and writings, such as poetry.
