Speaking Music as a First Language – K. Titchenell

Playing at the keyboard can be a wonderful learning experience and often reveals innate intuitive musical understanding in a toddler.  All too often, in an earnest effort to do what’s best, parents funnel children into lessons where their joy and creativity is sedated by baffling and discouraging lines, symbols, notes and scales.  These purely mechanical aspects of music should never be allowed to stand in the way of the creative and intuitive delight children can feel for music.  A child can learn to play tunes with harmony and compose original pieces within a few months.
